LZNI Briefing

Everything that matters on one page — one scroll, ready to print or save as a PDF before you fly.

The information on this page is advisory. The authoritative sources are AIP SR and valid NOTAMs.

Location5 km SE of the centre of Nitra
Elevation135 m (443 ft)

OperationsVFR day
Published hours MON–FRI 0800–1600 LT (the VFR manual gives 0700–1500 UTC, 0600–1400 UTC in summer — local time works out the same all year)
Outside those hours Normal VFR operations are possible — at weekends and outside the published hours, in daylight. The published hours apply to activities that need an aerodrome service on duty, for example aerobatics; those are not flown outside them.
Season all year; no snow clearance is provided
Aircraft accepted aeroplanes, motor gliders, gliders, microlights, helicopters, gyroplanes, balloons
Parachute operations yes — where the canopies land is below

Night VFR appears in the aerodrome manual but is not yet approved, so it is not listed here.

Runways and circuits

Two parallel grass runways: 15L/33R and 15R/33L. Magnetic bearing 141° / 321° (true 143° / 323°).

15L15R 33L33R
Dimensions (m) 1080 × 501080 × 100 1080 × 1001080 × 50
TORA / ASDA / LDA (m) 10801080 10801080
TODA (m) 11601160 11601160
Strip1200 × 200 m, no slope
Strength5700 kg / 0.7 MPa, critical type LET L-410
Circuits 33L and 33R left-hand, 15L and 15R right-hand. The circuit area is west of the field.
Circuit altitude MNM 1000 ft (300 m) AGL
Taxiing on the grass strip alongside the runway. There are no paved taxiways.
Glider launching aerotow. Occasionally also by winch (runways 33L and 15R) — so expect a cable over the runway.
Local rule: fly the circuit clear of the village, always to the west, MNM 1000 ft (300 m) AGL. This is the wording from the VFR manual — there is a village under the circuit, which is why the rule cannot be bent "a little".

Both runways are in use, but never at the same time. The aerodrome manual does not permit simultaneous operations on the parallel runways — two aircraft do not depart from both at once.

TODA 1160 m is from the VFR manual (16 Apr 2026). The 2020 aerodrome manual gave 1140 m; the newer, officially published figure is used here deliberately. All other declared distances agree in both sources.

Before arrival

Prior permission A normal VFR arrival in daylight needs no prior approval — including at weekends. The number at the top of the page is there if you want to ask something, not as a condition of arrival.
Flight plan File it through IBAF — the LPS self-briefing system (registration required). By telephone through CARO +421 2 4857 2280. At least one hour before departure.
Charges pay in the portal · rates below

The fee payment form is in English — the link above opens it in English, and there is a SK / EN switch on the page itself.

Charges

Landing €4.00 per each started tonne of MTOM
Parking €0.30 per each started hour and tonne of MTOM
Departing passenger €12.00 international · €4.00 domestic

The flying club is not VAT-registered — the amounts above are final. The VFR manual carries a general "excluding VAT" note with the rates; nothing is added.

Passenger charges apply to scheduled and non-scheduled commercial air transport. They do not apply to a normal general aviation arrival.

After landing — taxiing and parking

Visitor aircraft parking is marked P on the plan. Yellow outlines mark taxiways; magenta outlines mark glider competition parking. Aero Slovakia has its own apron.

Parking plan

Nitra airfield: runways 15L/33R and 15R/33L, yellow taxiways, visitor parking marked P and glider competition parking.
The plan includes Slovak and English labels. Click the image to open it at a larger size. For parking during parachuting, use the plan below.

Parachuting

There is skydiving at the field, run by Skydive Club Nitra Sport. Three things follow from that for an arriving pilot:

Landing zone 430 × 40 m along the runway on the apron side, next to the stands. It is divided into a tandem and a sport section.
Holding area above the landing zone — jumpers hold there before their approach and come in from it
Crossing the runway jumpers are not permitted to cross the runway below 300 m

During a parachute drop (from the moment parachutists exit the aircraft until the last parachutist has landed):

  • Flight operations in the drop area are prohibited, including approaches, overflights of the airfield, take-offs and landings.
  • On ground operating areas (aprons, aircraft stands and taxiways), starting engines, starting up a power unit or moving an aircraft is prohibited, to avoid endangering landing parachutists (for example, through propeller wash or unintended movement).

Parking during parachuting

Parking during parachuting at Nitra: visitor stands marked P, parachute landing zone 430 by 40 metres and parachutist approach arrows.
During parachuting, use the visitor parking areas marked P in this plan. The 430 × 40 m parachute landing zone is shown alongside the runway. Red arrows describe the parachutists’ approach, not aircraft taxi routes. Click to open the larger plan.

MON–FRI 07:00–15:00 (local time)
About the road fuel station: it is a public filling station, not an airfield service — you can only fill cans, the hose will not reach an aircraft. MOGAS may only be used by aircraft approved for it; that judgement is the pilot-in-command's. The advantage is the position — the station adjoins the airfield past the new hangars, so you can reach it on foot or by car.

Other organisations on the field: Aero Slovakia (flight school, aircraft maintenance) · Aeropro (aircraft maintenance and manufacture).

LZNI weather station

The club's own station on the airfield tower. It measures right here — unlike the reports from Piešťany and Bratislava below, which are tens of kilometres away.

The pressure from this station is not an official QNH. Set your altimeter from a METAR or from an ATS unit — the value here is for orientation, not for flight operations.

Weather from nearby aerodromes

LZNI does not issue a METAR — the aerodrome has no met service. The nearest stations are Piešťany (~45 km NW), Bratislava (~69 km W) and Győr-Pér in Hungary (~76 km S). The first two show what is coming in from the west; Győr does the same for the south.

45 km is 45 km. As a trend and a forecast these reports are usable; as the current state at Nitra they are not — for that, use the station on the airfield itself.

The aerodrome data, runways, circuits and charges on this page come from the VFR manual, sheet NR 087, effective 16 Apr 2026. Where it differed from the 2020 aerodrome manual, the VFR manual takes precedence — it is newer, and it is the published document an arriving pilot reads.
